POSITION SUMMARY:
The Senior Estimator oversees estimating for heavy civil construction projects, managing bid preparation and leading a team of estimators. The role includes handling 25-50 estimates annually, with values ranging from $5M to $100M, while coordinating with clients, project teams, and subcontractors to ensure accurate bids and successful project proposals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Manage bid preparation, pricing, and scheduling, incorporating historical data and quotes.
- Provide conceptual budgets, finalize estimates, and offer technical support on bids.
- Attend pre-bid and client meetings, present value engineering, and lead final negotiations.
- Maintain all estimate-related documents and prepare submittals for awarded contracts.
- Oversee awarded contract tracking, including extra work pricing and change orders.
- Mentor and train Junior Estimators.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of experience in estimating and cost control, with a focus on heavy civil construction.
- Ability to manage complex bids and lead a team, with experience in unit price, lump sum, and design-build contracts.
- Familiarity with VDOT, USACE, NAVFAC, and local government is preferred.
SOFTWARE:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, HCSS (Heavy Bid), Primavera, and Viewpoint.
- Strong technical writing and digital skills.
