Database Administrator Oracle/SQL

Location: London

Our client is a British multinational refining, storage, distribution, and sales conglomerate dealing in crude oil, petroleum products and biofuels, headquartered in London.

Job Dimensions:

  • To deliver support of IT services for approx to +1200 business users, customers and IT staff worldwide.
  • Service failures and delays in restoration can have significant financial and reputational impact on the business
  • Participate on strategic projects, purchasing and implementing IT services and solutions.

Activities:

The following activities are typical but not limited to that discipline:

  • Proactively maintain and support the company databases and by extension the solutions
  • Investigate and attempt to resolve, Incidents/Requests/Changes, and when appropriate escalate to relevant next level (Internal/External) as needed.
  • Display leadership in area of specialisation
  • To provide technical advice and guidance to in-house and external suppliers on building, delivering, implementing and supporting own area of expertise.
  • Participate in business & IT projects.
  • Ensure all IT solutions are maintained at the correct patch levels and configuration, minimising risks to Operations
  • Work with 3rd parties and partners

Auditing and reporting

Ensure periodic & adhoc IT reporting/data required for Audit (e.g. SOX), is completed and published on time.

Context & Environment:

Operating from the Weybridge office, this role is a member of the IT team. IT is critical to operate all our business activities both operational and incident related. Our business applications rely on the availability of systems inside and outside of business hours.

Accountabilities:

  • Operation and maintenance of our databases and IT solutions within agreed service levels
  • Ensure compliance with any regulations relating to the storage and operation of data
  • Support the development and support teams in relation to any infrastructure and database related activities
  • Work on IT initiatives and projects, keeping management up to date with progress or issues

Qualifications/Experience:

General

  • Degree or equivalent +5 years of relevant industry experience in database administration and application support

  • Organisation and planning abilities, ability to work to deadlines
  • The ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff, business and IT, technical and non-technical
  • Ability to absorb and retain information quickly with good attention to detail
  • Proven analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to be flexible and capable of multitasking & proritizing in a high pace environment.

Technical skills - General

  • Microsoft Server administration
  • Project management skills, capable of taking responsibility of projects and drive them through completion
  • Understanding and use of storage systems
  • Use of monitoring technologies
  • Use of IT Service Management methodologies and tools e.g. ITIL
  • Software deployment skills and awareness of software packaging and patch management
  • Scripting ability being able to contibute along with the development team in the delivery of solutions

Technical skills - Database Administration

  • Proven understanding of relational database principles and client/server system architecture.
  • Good technical understanding of database design, operation, management & tuning
  • Maintain integrity of the data
  • Implementing database related change requests
  • Improve data models
  • Query optimization
  • Experience and technical knowledge of recovery methods
  • Proficiency in Oracle Databases v11, 12 and beyond, able train other member of staff
  • Working knowledge in MS SQL Server and T-SQL

Additional desired technical skills

  • Microsoft Certifications: MCSA or/and MCSE
  • SSAS/SSIS/SSRS
  • Azure
  • .net
