ERSG is currently looking for a Yard Manager for a leading logistics company for oversized and complicated projects related to transportation based out of Providence, Rhode Island or Albany, New York.

POSITION DETAILS:

  • Employment Type: Contract (at least 1 year with the opportunity of contract extensions or to become a direct employee) or on a permanent basis.

COMPANY OVERVIEW:

This company is a transportation service provider specializing in large infrastructure projects - specifically offshore wind in the EU and US. With offices in Antwerp, BE; Cape Town, ZA; and Charlottesville, VA, the company has a strong track record providing full logistics packages for fabricators/OEMS, T&I contractors, EPCIs, and project developers. The company has been involved in the European offshore wind industry since 2009, and the US offshore wind market since 2020 - earning a well-respected reputation due to the numerous successful projects delivered.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The company's scope for the Sunrise Wind (SRW01) project involves the load-out, barge transport, and load-in or secondary steel foundation components. Cargo to be loaded-out from Fabrication Harbor (Port of Coeymans - Ravena, NY) and transported to Marshalling Harbor (ProvPort - Providence, RI).

The Yard Manager will be based full-time in the project area (Northeast US) and travel between the Fabrication Harbor and Marshaling Harbor during operations. Operations are expected to commence March-2025 and run continuously for approximately six (6) months - until all secondary steel cargos are delivered to Marshalling Harbor. in total, there should be fourteen (14) total loadouts, barge trips, and load-ins to deliver all cargos.

The Yard Manager role, responsibilities, and requirements are further detailed below. Overall, the Yard Manager will serve as the company's local representative to initiate, manage, oversee, and document all operations in accordance with project planning documents (MST); interface with local project stakeholders; and support the Project Manager in achieving required deliverables related to schedule, cost, risk and quality. The Yard Manager will also be expected to support the project team prior to commencement of operations with necessary planning activities (meetings, site walks, subcontractor management/readiness, etc).

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

On-Site Operations Management

  • Execute project logistics strategy at the Fabrication and Marshalling Harbors - planning and coordinating load-out/load-in of the cargos
  • Tracking barge movement and schedule
  • Track operations schedule and cargo locations - report updates to stakeholders; take action to stay within schedule baseline
  • Manage subcontractor performance per statement of work - stevedores, crane and rigging, heavy haul
  • Monitor subcontractors to ensure adherence to performance and quality control standards
  • Ensuring all subcontractors understand the operations plan and their responsibilities during its execution
  • Supervise and document operations

On-Site Quality Management:

  • Confirm safe and proper handling during operations in accordance project planning documents
  • Cargo inspection and damage reporting
  • Equipment inspection and reporting
  • Accident investigation, incident reporting and root cause analysis
  • Identifying, investigating and reporting any in-transit variances prior to commencing load-in operations
  • Ensuring all cargo and equipment in good order prior to load-out operations, and working to secure COA from MWS prior to barge departure
  • Physical inventory of cargos

Reporting and Project Management Assistance:

  • Support development of project plan documents related to scope, schedule, budget, and risk management
  • Preparing reports on the type, amount, condition of the cargo and summarizing operations
  • Monitor performance metrics to control costs, resources, quality and risks
  • Budget control - document variances and communicate potential risks or changes in cost/scope with project team
  • Assist with auditing vendor invoices
  • Maintain a full understanding of project contracts
  • Record and disseminate lessons learned to improve future project performance

REQUIREMENTS:

  • US Citizen / authorized to work in US for extended duration without employer sponsorship
  • Ideally living near either the Fabrication or Marshalling Harbor (Albany, NY area or Providence, RI area)
  • Be prepared to travel at short notice
  • Acceptance of shipping working hours (frequent changes, delays, extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays)
  • Have attention to detail, accuracy and timeliness
  • Able to be held to high standards and perform when required
  • Self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate issues, assess complex variables, identify source causes, and offer solutions
  • Strong written and verbal communication (English)
  • Able to communicate effectively with non-native English speakers
  • Work effectively with cross-functional project teams that consist of internal staff and external contractors; manage local contractors
  • Skilled at authoring professional, informative and concise reports
  • Strong computer, software and smartphone proficiency
  • Be physically fit - able to climb stairs, ladders, gangways and stand for long durations
  • Able to effectively see and maneuver under/over/through or around obstacles (cargos) present on barges and in terminals

EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS:

  • Relevant experience in the transportation and logistics industry with strong preference for experience related to port/stevedoring operations and/or barge/towing operations
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience as marine/cargo surveyors, port captains/supercargoes, stevedoring foreman, or time working on vessels/tugs
  • Valid Driver's License
  • Current TWIC card or ability to obtain in short order
